"Is it just me, or is it hot in here?"

So last night, Eddie and I decided to go to a barbecue with some of the guys from the base. All cops, of course. The beer was flowing, but almost everybody was relatively sober, which was nice. Having a good time but not getting stupid, messy drunk. After partaking in the consumption of grilled animal flesh and cheesecake - and looking at "no really, this one is real!" videos of alleged ghosts on YouTube - we all decided it was a good idea to head out to a local bar and hang out for a while. Nevermind the fact that it was already 10:30 pm and Eddie had to be up early to go to a paintball tournament this morning, the night was young. We assigned DD's, piled into a couple of vehicles, and headed to some bar on the 7th floor of some building near Camp Foster.

This bar was freaking awesome. It was small, had a really cool view of the city (sorry, didn't have a camera), a pool table, relatively cheap booze, and our group was fun and more or less sober. Even the karaoke wasn't that bad, and I loathe and despise karaoke from the deepest, darkest bowels of my soul. In fact, the karaoke was actually fun - if ear-splitting at times - particularly one guy's epic rendition of Like a Virgin.

There was one tiny disadvantage to this place, though:

The air conditioning was broken.

Not a big deal at night, right? HAHAHAHA YEAH RIGHT. The sun had fallen out of the sky hours before, but the heat remained. And indoors? Even hotter. That's probably also why the place was deserted except for us...it was absolutely sweltering. I think most of the drinking was to cool down, not to get drunk, and they were handing out wet washclothes that had been in the freezer (don't laugh...when you're that hot, those things are worth your own weight in gold). It also turns out that playing pool is a challenge when your hands are sweating like that. At least, that's what I said to defend my abysmal performance.

In spite of the heat, though, it was fun. I'm usually not a fan of bars and clubs. Add inescapable heat and karaoke, and I'm generally miserable. But, strangely enough, it was still a lot of fun. I hope we do it again soon.

I know. Terribly exciting. Lori actually got out and socialized instead of holing up at home and pretending that the rest of the human race only exists on my computer. But hey, at least it wasn't a blog about writing.

Oh, and while Eddie and I were roughousing at one point (as we often do), he managed to chip my tooth. I'll get him back eventually. Stay tuned...

  1. Boo for heat!
    Yay for fun!

Oh, and smacking Eddie in the mouth to get him back for an accident would be naughty. You'll have to make it look like an accident, k? ;-)
