Genre-bending and Other Randomness

Yikes, I've neglected my blog for three whole days. So here's a rundown of all the randomness from the last few days...

I've been keeping an eye on Between Brothers (read: watching it like an obsessive hawk) and its progress on various websites. Still sitting at #1 on the Carnal Passions Contemporary list, and up to #3 on the overall list. It rose from # 9 to #2 on My Bookstore And More, though it has since dropped to #3. No complaints here!! It's still climbing on All Romance Ebooks, where it's #2 on the Multiple Partners list and inching up on the Contemporary and Erotica lists. Many thanks to everyone who's bought the book, and I hope you're all enjoying it!

Things are progressing with Rules of Engagement, too. I just approved the back cover blurb, and I'm told the manuscript is due to be in front of an editor in early October, so that's moving along quite nicely. No cover art yet, but you better believe it'll be posted here the second I have it.

In other news...in an effort to find some cheap entertainment that efficiently doubles as Quality Time With The Spouse, I've begun channeling my inner nerd. Eddie and I have dusted off our cards, rebuilt our decks, and yes, begun playing Magic: The Gathering again. We have some friends here in Okinawa who also play, so this may actually hold the key to some socializing and a slight drop in my rating on the Uber-Reclusive Hermit Index(tm). It's also led to us introducing our home to houseguests by way of "this is where the Magic happens", because we are never the types to pass up a chance to throw down a lame pun. Anyway, yes, I'm a nerd, and I am unashamed.

I took yesterday off from writing to play some Magic and just let my brain recharge. Today, I'm back to the grind with Behind Closed Doors. Approaching 70,000 words, hopefully less than 30-40,000 to go. Scarlett and I are both aiming to finish our respective books by October 7, and I'll be very annoyed if I can't crank out the required 3,000 words a day that I'd have to average to make it. I love my characters, I love this story, but damn if I'm not getting tired of it. Ready to move on to something new.

Speaking of moving on to something new...I may be doing some genre-bending here fairly soon. For the last year, I've stuck with erotica, erotic romance, and M/M erotic romance, deviating only once to write Fit For A King, which is fantasy (well, okay, and Sins of the Father is fantasy too, but that one doesn't count because I wrote it before I made the switch to romance). I think, though, that I am going to take a short break from writing dirty stories and try my hand at...yes...literary fiction.

I'm not sure if it will be my NaNo novel, but it's a good possibility. I may also write it at the same time I write Closer. Closer is dirtier than Between Brothers, so I it might behoove me to have another project going in parallel to give me a break from writing those scenes (tm). Because, damn, they can get exhausting (I'm not kidding).

Anyway, I've begun making notes about this genre-bender, but it's going to require a little research and some pre-writing work before I jump into it. Should be able to give it a go by November, though. So...when you see the word counter for Flight of the Rail on the right side of my blog, you will know that I have gone careening into the world of literary fiction, and you may then commence scanning the horizon for the other Three Horsemen.

And finally, I may have to weasel my way back to the States sometime in the relatively near future, because my parents have just acquired Mr. Spock, who is an unspeakably adorable specimen of cuteness:
Now, back to Behind Closed Doors...

  1. Hi there,
I've just recently been following your blog, which is a great, fun read, btw.
I had to ask, is your parent's cat an Oriental?
He looks like it in the picture - beautiful cat!

  2. Kim -

Glad you're enjoying my blog! The cat is an Oriental shorthair, yes. I think he's 4.5 months old or so. I can't wait to see him in person next time I'm stateside!

  3. Don't let you Uber-Reclusive Hermit Index(tm)get too low, or you'll lose your bonuses to Public Hatred and Sarcasm.

Also, yay for BB, and can't wait for RoE!!! (My dogtags are teh sex):D

    ALSO, Mr Spock is cute!!!

Adam, awaiting Lori's foray into literary fiction.

  4. First of all, OMG MR SPOCK = SOOO CUTE. I want one.

Also, WOW, literary fiction! I am looking forward to reading what you produce. Plus it has a bird in the title, so I'm psyched.

Additionally, congrats on how well Between Brothers is doing! That is so exciting! (And well deserved, 'cause it rocks.)

    And last, NEEERRRRD!!!!!
