I finished editing World Enough and Time, having trimmed 7 chapters, 10,000 words, and 3 of those scenes(tm). It's now in the capable hands of Libbie and Scarlett, who will decide if it's acceptable in its newly slimmed down form.
With that book out of the way, it was back to Cover Me, which has resumed progressing at a speedy clip. No word dentistry yesterday; 5,500 words like it was nothing. I'll take that as a good sign. The characters are also talking to me again...another good sign.
It's funny how things happen with my characters sometimes. Yesterday, Andrew (the love interest) told me he lives in a house, not an apartment. But then, he's a cop, he lives alone, doesn't make a hell of a lot of money, and probably couldn't afford a house in the city. So he lives outside the city. No, further out. Way out. Yes, out in the sticks. And it's a good sized house on a chunk of property. How the hell did he afford that? Oh, his parents willed it to him. Didn't know that. And since the place is paid off, he has no rent or mortgage, so he probably has a little extra money from each paycheck. What's that, Andrew? Look in the garage? Oh. Oh. That is one sweet car.
So now I've got more about details about him and his personality, but then he throws me one more curve ball and uses said car to underscore his devotion to protecting the main character later on. (I'm not giving it away here)
Can I just say, I love it when they do this to me?
Today, I'm aiming for my usual 5,000, but I will try to push past it a bit and get ahead of the game. The next few days probably won't be terribly productive, because I will be getting up every 20 minutes to get my husband a new ice pack while he recuperates from...well...refer to the title of this blog entry.
I also have the Advanced Review Copy of Nine Tenths of the Law, so I'll be going over that in the next few days as well. That's the last step besides cover art, then the book is ready to roll. Hopefully I'll have the cover art soon - yay!
So, to recap: World Enough and Time is edited, Cover Me is progressing, my husband will be convalescing, Nine Tenths of the Law is nearly there, and James McAvoy is hot.

You're not going to tell us what kind of car?
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteI just finished Angel Time by Anne Rice five minutes ago. Her last chapter is titled World Enough and Time.
ReplyDeleteI love it when my characters throw me a curve ball. Makes me fall in love with them a little more every time (except when they change their minds >.< )
ReplyDeleteApril,
ReplyDeleteIt's a line from a Marvell poem, so it's been used from time to time. Scarlett suggested it for this book, and it fits perfectly. :D
Lori
I know what kind of car he drives. :D
