I love these guys.

No, no, I'm not referring to 30 Seconds to Mars this time. I'm referring to my characters. Specifically, the cast of NSFW. I'm about 10,000 words into the story at this point, and I'm having a ball with these guys. It remains to be seen if the book will sink or swim, but for the time being, I'm having fun.

First, there's good ol' Simon McNeill, my main character. This guy already has a bit of a sordid past, as he didn't just spring fully formed from my forehead during the outline process. No, he actually came from none other than Scarlett. She wasn't using him anymore, so she ever so kindly donated him from one of her trunked novels (the title of which she'd previously donated to Rain). Simon has taken on a life of his own, and he's turning into quite the dirty bastard.

But Simon's not the only fun one. It seems he works for an architectural firm, and spends most of his work day in a communal workspace with five minor characters. This little band of merry men and women are the most crass, shameless, off-the-wall people I've ever wedged into one book. And I can partially blame Scarlett for this. One of her friends made a comment to her the other day about my writing (specifically, whether or not I make frequent use of the word "length" in my dirty writingz), and we decided to slip a little inside joke into NSFW. To give that joke context...well...let's just say things got a little out of hand, and now I've got an ensemble cast of minor characters who are making this book wickedly fun to write.

All of that said, I do love these guys.

  1. Did I miss something and NSFW actually stands for something, or is that really just the title?
