Looking for book recommendations.

My loyal blog minions, I have a favor to ask:

Once I'm done with my current WIP, I'm going to start researching a novel I plan to write in early 2011. I've been perusing Amazon, and will probably have a gander at the pitifully small selection at the bookstore on base, but I thought I'd put this out there and see what recommendations people might have.

I am looking for books, websites, etc., on ancient Greece and all things relating to it, from its earliest days forward. Have you found one that was particularly useful? An author, archaeologist, expert, whomever?

I need everything.
  • Mythology
  • Daily life
  • Architecture
  • Warfare
  • ...etc.
If you have any recommendations, please shoot me an e-mail or leave a comment.

Thank you all!

  1. The classic on Greek mythology,of course, is Edith Hamilton's "Mythology". If it is still in print it is a good one.
One of my favorites is a childrens book "See Inside An Ancient Greek Town", series editor RJ Unstead. It's short, not a lot of detail, but excellent illustrations that give a really good feel of what such a town looked like.
