So I got some wickedly helpful feedback on Camera Shy this morning, which pretty much meant I wasn't going to be able to focus on Between Brothers at all today. I figured that I could put that book on hold for a day and implement some of the revisions to Camera Shy, which I did.
And guess what? It was hard as hell. I was wracking my brain all day, trying to figure out why I was having such a hard time writing the new chapters for Camera Shy. I mean, that story came to me almost as easily as Playing With Fire. What gives???
What gives, it turns out, is that I've been "in the zone" with Between Brothers for the last week or so. Reading a chapter of one, then the other, I realized that I use a very, very different voice in each book. There's a different tone, different rhythm (get your mind out of the gutter; I'm talking about the prose). And, wouldn't you know it? It's not as easy as I thought it would be to switch back and forth between those voices. (See? Not only do I hear voices, I use different voices, and trying to use two at the same time gets me all tongue-tied. If you had any lingering doubt that I am insane, now would be a good time to part ways with said doubts...I'm nuts. Deal.)
So, tomorrow it's back to Between Brothers so that I can get that story out of my system and shut that voice the #&*@ up. That story is so close to being done, it's not even funny, so I imagine that within the next couple of days, I'll be able to wrap it up. Then I'll give Camera Shy a read, get in my groove with that particular voice, and finish up the revisions. Not to worry, though - I have made progress on the revisions, and I'm loving what it's doing to the story. Jason and Simone are more or less cooperating for once, which helps. I give it a week or so before I finish adding the new chapters and implementing the remaining changes to existing chapters (I'm about 85% done with the revisions to existing chapters). After that, I'll revise the snot out of it, invest in some hardcore antacids and anti-anxiety drugs, and resubmit it in all its pervy glory.
There.
Now you're up to date.
I'm sure this will help you sleep better at night...if nothing else because it bored you into a coma.
You're welcome.
