Getting back in the saddle.

Ugh. It's been weeks since I've written. Of course I gave myself a pass to not do any writing during that time, which mercifully removed the pressure, but here it is, three days past the end of my self-imposed grounding, and I haven't written a damned thing. I know full well why - it's related to the medical issues I mentioned in a previous post - but Jesus, it's frustrating. It's all pretty much zapped my concentration and killed my enthusiasm for...well...anything.

But, as the wise Scarlett always tells me, the only way out is through. The book isn't going to write itself while I sit back and wangst about how much I don't feel like writing. This is my job, and it needs to be done whether I feel like it or not.

So today, I'm making myself get back into the swing of things. I'm easing myself back into it, setting my goal at 3,000 words instead of my usual 5,000, but the words are getting written.

Ideally, I'd like to have Light Switch finished before I leave for the States in about three weeks. That way, I can work on the edits while I'm flying. Don't know if that will happen, though. We shall see. At this point, I just want some forward motion, even if it's slow.

My word counter may do some crazy things today. In addition to writing a minimum of 3,000 words, I'm probably deleting a couple of half-written scenes from the book, which will drop the word count by a few thousand words. So by the end of the day, the total may be lower than it is now, even after I've met my goal. Such is life, right?

Anyway...back to work. And before I sign off, just to be different, here's some Olivia Wilde ladycandy:

  3. I'm in the same boat - getting back into the habit of writing after a long break.

    Good luck with it.
